Prime roads connecting Dindigul GH, Periyar statue and flower bazaar area in the town have been converted into one way and traffic diversion introduced to ease traffic congestion and regulate movement of vehicles here on Saturday.

Now, main two-way streets around GH junction and Periyar statue junction were marked as one way.

Tiruchi Road between Anna statue and Periyar statue, GH Road between GH south gate and Anna statue, Sub-Collector’s office road and AMC Road between central bus stand and Periyar statue were converted into one ways. Barricade before GH emergency ward entrance was removed and the bus stop, opposite to it, was shifted to Salai Road junction near GH south gate.

All vehicles including buses from central bus stand have to pass through AMC Road, take a right turn at Periyar statue to reach Vanivilas Medu after passing through GH Road and North Car Street. Vehicles from Vilasmedu should go through Palani Road and Tiruchi Road to reach Sub-collector’s office road and take right turn near the court to reach the bus stand.

Vehicles from Tiruchi Road should pass through link roads near flower bazaar or near court, to reach Salai Road after passing through AMC Road.

All vehicles coming from Salai Road and Corporation Road should take diversion at Periyar statue, pass through link road leading to GH south entrance to reach Tiruchi Road or Sub-collector’s office road.

Road users were highly puzzled over the sudden traffic diversions being enforced without prior announcement. Police were deployed at all diversion points to regulate traffic. Road users were asked to go back at many junctions.

The police said that traffic was diverted on a trial basis. “Already, we have planned to divert buses going to Tiruchi, Karur and Kumbakonam from the central bus stand through post office road and Arthi Theatre Road. If road users had any trouble, we will modify the arrangement, said the traffic police.
