A 25-year-old youth from Madakashira taluk in Andhra Pradesh was swept away in the Nethravathi at Dharmasthala on Saturday.
The Belthangady police have identified the victim as Shivanna, resident of Gullahatti, Agari Mandala in Ananthapur district.
Shivanna had been to Dharmasthala along with eight other family members. They went to the bathing ghats of the Netravathi in the morning and Shivanna was caught in the strong currents of the river, the police said.
He was not been traced till late evening.
