CHANDIGARH: A day after the UT police brought Robin, a hardcore criminal, from Delhi in connection with the sensational robbery at Karan Jewellers in Sector 22, they claimed he had a notorious past, and was involved in 25 cases of robbery and theft across various states. Sources said he appeared similar to the accused caught on camera while committing the robbery, and the police are likely to work on getting some DNA clue to prove he was involved in the robbery.
On August 4 last year, in a daring daylight robbery, a cap-wearing youth who was on foot, looted 18 gold chains worth over rupees six lakh from a Sector 22-based jewellery store, and shot at a salesman in the head, leaving him critically injured. On the next day, the police announced a reward of Rs50,000 for the informer. Despite a crystal-clear CCTV footage available at the jewellery store, which was sent across police stations of various states, the UT police had failed to get any lead in the case until now. "The accused brought from Delhi seems to be the one, as he is similar to the guy seen in the footage. We are hopeful of getting a lead soon," said a police official.
