HOWRAH: A biker ran his bike over the feet of a traffic constable near Howrah Maidan on Saturday afternoon. The traffic constable was trying to note down the number of the bike that caused an accident while racing with another bike. This was the second attack on a traffic constable in Howrah in as many days.
Later in the day, a gang of 10-12 men barged into Howrah Hospital’s emergency ward and assaulted Surajit Mondal, another biker who was injured in the accident.
The injured constable, Asit Baran Mondal, was also undergoing treatment at the ward.
Around 3.30pm on Saturday, two bikes, each with three people on them, were racing in Howrah’s Pilkhana. The biker of one of the bikes lost control and hit Surajit, who was passing by Howrah Maidan on his bike. Surajit fell off his bike and suffered injuries.
Mondal, who was on duty in the area, rushed to rescue Surajit. When he tried to note the number of the offending bike, the racers were enraged. They assaulted Mondal and ran the front wheel of their bike over his feet. Police are conducting raids to nab the racers.
