One person was killed and two others were injured when a wall adjoining a roadside eatery in Vadapalani collapsed late on Saturday night.

Police identified the deceased as Chinna, 25, and the injured as Karuppiah (44) and Balakrishna (40). The injured have been taken to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for treatment, they added.

Sathya and a group of his friends were headed to the eatery stationed outside AVM Studios  when they saw the wall collapsing behind the cart. They saw their friend Chinna, who ran the stall, being crushed to death.

“At first, the leftmost corner of the wall collapsed, and then, as if in slow motion, the wall in front of Chinna’s stall fell on him, crushing him and two other people,” Sathya said. The group immediately tried to pull the people from beneath the rubble and called for an ambulance. The wall, according to locals, was the old entrance of AVM Studios. It collapsed in the mild showers the city was experiencing  on Saturday night. Further investigation is on.
