From 'Chicken kukdoo koo' to 'Jalebi bai': Songs that will make you go hungry
Whacky lyrics are not new to Bollywood, but when these songs mention food delicacies, they're sure to whet your appetite. Take for instance, the latest song 'Chicken kukdoo koo' from Bajrangi Bhaijaan. With lots of chicken clucking sounds in the background, the lyrics include food items like biryani bukhari, nalli nihari, raan, rotis, tikka adding a fun element to the song sequence.
Sometimes songs like these blend in perfectly with a scene and sometimes they're hilarious, even if totally inane. Whatever be the case, such numbers do become popular when it has a big star dancing to it.
The mood can get so contagious that you just might even want to eat what you have heard.

Mallika Sherawat gyrating to 'Jalebi bai' in Double Dhamaal comes to mind as a raseela number that became an instant chartbuster.'The mutton song' from Luv Ka The End too was a funky track that earned appreciation among the youngsters. Bappi Lahiri's 'You are my chicken curry' from the 90's film Rock Dancer, created ripples then, but its remix version in Ragini MMS was a runaway hit with the listeners. Anurag Basu's Barfi! and the film's theme track 'Ala barfi', however, have no connection to the popular Indian mithai.Yet the warm reception to the movie at the box office reiterated that pure love, which is unblemished can be just as sweet.

Almost all the songs have no connect when it came to matching the scene with the lyrics which ended up making them look quite hilarious. Like the Akshay Kumar Juhi Chawla number 'Jab tak rahega samose mein aloo' from Mr . & Mrs. Khiladi. Though the tune was catchy , the filming of the song and the vigorous dance steps had nothing to do with the lyrics.
Similar is the song 'Soan papdi meri soan papdi' with Govinda and Raveena Tandon calling each other by
mithai names. Govinda has another food song to his credit with co-star Karishma Kapoor for company as they treat themselves to a variety of roadside chaat items while singing 'Main toh raste se jaa raha tha', which makes a mention of eating bhelpuri, mirchi and ice cream in Coolie No. 1.

In the same silly song category , is the 'Batata-Wada' song from Hifazat in the 80s. It featured Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit in a drunken stupor, dreaming about dancing in various South Indian get-ups with batata wadas of all sizes for company .
Compared to these the 'Rookhi sookhi roti' from Nayak with Anil Kapoor and Rani Mukerji had an innocent feel to it. With the lush green village background, we had the couple dance amidst farms, near rivers, riding buffalos, sharing food, while all the time singing and dancing too.
One song that had the entire lyrics based around food and emotions was 'Waah ji waah' in Duplicate. Shah Rukh Khan, who plays a chef in the movie, is seen expressing his love musically with lyrics like 'Dheere dheere pyaar ki jo aag jal gai, jitni masti do dilon mein thi ubal gai, iska maza chak loon main zara, fir kahunga main ki dal gal gai...waah ji waah, waah ji waah, waah ji waah waah waah'.
