SURAT: A group of college students has spent their whole savings on the treatment of Anandi Rathod, who suffers from Rickets and a broken bone. These students got this five-year-old child admitted to Guru Nanak Hospital at Bhatar where she was operated upon on Friday by Dr Devendra Narang.
Anandi lives with her mother at Gandhi Kutir Kachara Khana in Bhatar.
Her father had abandoned her mother sometime back. The child, who suffers from Rickets, also has been reeling under pain for the past two years ever since she fractured her left leg after a fall. Her mother was not aware about the reason for her immense pain.
Lata Singh, who runs Ashadeep Foundation, an NGO, for street children, noticed Anandi when she was crying with pain.
“We had held a medical camp a few days ago and found that this little girl had a fracture in her leg. We decided to collect money for her treatment,” Lata said.
Renish Kansagra and Renu Sharma, two third year BBA students of BRCM College, took upon themselves the responsibility of raising money for Anandi’s treatment. They along with eight other college friends collected Rs 20,000 for the little girl’s treatment. The total cost of operation was Rs 25,000.
“I gave my five years saving for Anandi’s treatment. I want to see her play with other kids,” said Renu Sharma, daughter of a caterer’s family in the city.
“It is our duty to help people who are in need. We can do without parties and spend the money saved on a good cause,” said Renish Kansagra, a youth from a family that owns a couple of theatres in the city.
