Guwahati: For the first time,
Gauhati University (GU) will conduct an entrance
test for admission to BEd colleges. The test will be held on July 29.
There are 36 degree colleges affiliated to GU, with over 3,000 seats. However, over 6,000 students have submitted admission forms.
“The demand for BEd is increasing. We will hold a test to give a fair chance to all candidates,” said H K Nath, secretary of university classes, GU.
“Earlier, students got admission to BEd colleges by paying donation or influencing the college management. The entrance test will make the process transparent,” an education department source said.

Assam, revealed that of 27,407 teachers in government-run secondary schools, 4,240 have a BEd degree, while 156 teachers have Master of Education (MEd) degree. In government-run higher (senior) secondary schools, where, of 5,634 teachers, 844 teachers have BEd degree and only 50 have MEd degrees.
