Debt-ridden ryot commits suicide

A debt-ridden farmer Polisetty Ramaiah (49), committed suicide by consuming pesticide in Peapully mandal headquarters in Kurnool district on Friday.

Ramaiah, who owned five acres of land, took five more acres on lease and incurred a debt of Rs. 7.50 lakh for cultivating the land. Unable to bear the prolonged drought conditions and mounting pressure to repay the debt, Ramaiah consumed pesticide in his house.

His family members rushed him to Kurnool General Hospital, where he died. Peapully police registered a case.
