Congress slams MP AAG’s letter on Vyapam bandh
BHOPAL: The Congress on Friday took strong objection to a July 14 letter written by Madhya Pradesh additional advocate general KS Wadhwa to district collectors and SPs, terming its bandh on Thursday as illegal and against Supreme Court directives. The Congress-sponsored bandh was to protest against the Vyapam scam.
Reacting to the AAG’s letter, Congress chief spokesperson K K Mishra said: “This is highly objectionable as the Jabalpur bench of Madhya Pradesh high court did not reject Congress’ move to call a bandh.
The court directed bandh organisers not to obstruct roads, impede traffic or cause loss of property. The Congress has full faith in court and is compelled to follow instructions. But additional advocate general Wadhwa’s order to district collectors and SPs is a misinterpretation of court directives and party's fundamental right to protest.”
Mishra also quoted another letter by state home secretary B P Singh to district collectors. It simply stated that as per court directives, the administration should ensure that fundamental rights of citizens are not violated. “Also, during bandh, protesters who incite violence or cause loss of public property should be dealt with strictly,” the letter stated.
Speaking to TOI, Wadhwa said, “I wrote what was directed by high court.” When asked whether the bandh was illegal, he said one should see the court’s interim order. The Congress has pleaded with high court to take note.
