Chandigarh: Government school inaugurated in Sector 45

The Adviser announced the installation of air conditioners in the principals’ rooms of all the government schools.

UT Adviser Vijay Kumar Dev announced several proposals during the inauguration of the Government Model High School in Sector 45 on Thursday.

The proposals include evening schools for poor children, five new government schools, six sports centres, 1,100 more teachers, introduction of a new subject on social responsibility and installing air conditioners in the principals rooms of all government schools.

This was the second school to be inaugurated this month after the Government Model High School in Dhanas-1. The new school in Sector 45 has been set up to cater to the needs of students residing in Burail village in Sector 45, 48 and 49. The school has 29 classrooms, four labs and six special rooms, including a computer lab. The school will cater to approximately 1,200 students. The department may have to run the school in double shifts if more students join.

Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki, the UT Administrator, who was the chief guest said the opening of a school not only opens the path to knowledge for a child, but also opens up several limitless opportunities for people, especially in the periphery areas.

MP Kirron Kher, who was also present, proposed to introduce a subject on social responsibility as a pilot project in one of the schools to enlighten the children on how to be a responsible citizen.

Vijay Dev while addressing the gathering announced that by August 15, a total of 1,100 teachers will be placed. He said the projects, including opening up of six new sports centres for school students, five new government schools in the periphery areas and the evening schools for poor children, will be completed by this year end.

“The construction of four schools is already going on and with their completion we will focus on strengthening the teacher-pupil ratio which is worse in the schools of periphery areas and in the southern sectors as well,” said Dev.

He added, “We are working diligently to balance the teacher-pupil ratio in all the government schools. At present, we have 7,000 teachers and by recruiting 1,100 more, the percentage of teachers would increase by 15 per cent for the first time. Secondly, in order to channelise the energies of school children, six sports centres will be opened up soon and we are also working to open the school playgrounds for everybody during the evening. Fencing work is going on in these schools.”

The Adviser also announced the installation of air conditioners in the principals’ rooms of all the government schools.

The schools that are under construction are Government High School in Sector 48, Government High School in Sector 49, Government High School in Pocket No. 1 in Manimajra, Government High School at Pocket No. 8 in Manimajra, Government High School in Dhanas-Site-2 and Government High School in Kishangarh.
