Octogenarian gets RI for sexual assault on minor girl

Fast Track Mahila Court Judge J. Flora on Thursday sentenced A. Velu Nadar (80) of Arockiapuram, Tuticorin, to undergo three-year rigorous imprisonment on a charge of sexually assaulting a minor girl.

According to prosecution, Velu Nadar sexually assaulted a nine-year-old schoolgirl of the same locality on November 25 in 2013. The girl, then studying in class V, went her friend’s house to play, when Velu Nadar, grandfather of the victim’s friend, sexually assaulted her.

Tuticorin All Women Police had filed a case. The accused was punished under Section 8 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012.
