A day after a suspected gang war took place on the busy Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road, police teams on Thursday conducted raids in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in search of the four men who sprayed bullets on an SUV carrying a man on way to court for a murder hearing.
A senior police officer said the gang could be from Moradabad in UP and were probably contract killers hired to kill Rakesh Kumar Hayatpur, who was travelling in the SUV. Hayatpur is named in as many as 16 cases of murder, robbery and attempt to murder.
Hayatpur, who survived unharmed, named two persons as suspects in his police complaint.

Police said Hayatpur had allegedly hired killers from UP to murder a village sarpanch, Rakesh Yadav, in June 2011 over a land feud. Hayatpur paid Rs 3.5 lakh to the killers, police said. “Angry villagers managed to nab one of the killers and burnt him alive. We are probing if there is a link between the sarpanch’s killing and the firing,” ACP (Crime) Rajesh Kumar said.
The Cyber Crime Branch too has been checking the Call Detail Records (CDR) from the area around the time of the incident.
