8.26% students pass CA exam, Mumbai boy secures third rank

Mumbai boy Deval Modi secured the third rank nationally with 71.88%. A total of 42, 847 students had appeared for the exam.

The results for the chartered accountancy final examination held in May 2015 were announced on Thursday. A total of 8.26% candidates passed the exam in both groups. The pass percentage this year has shown a marginal rise as compared to 8.23% in the November 2014 exam.

“I always believed in planning and so I had prepared a timetable for myself that I followed while preparing for the exam. The CA portion is too voluminous to complete every thing, every time.

Hence, I completed that portion well in advance and dedicated the remaining days for revisions before the exam,” said Modi.

The pass percentage in the CA exam has shown a rise over the past two years. In the exam held in May 2014, 7.29% candidates had passed and in the November 2013 exams, the pass percentage was only 3.11%. However, 12.97% had passed the November 2012 exam and 16.38% had passed the May 2012 exam compared to which the pass percentage has slipped, claimed experts.

Modi, a resident of Borivali, completed his graduation in Commerce last year from Narsee Monjee College at Vile Parle. He secured 575 out of 800 in the CA final exam this year in his first attempt. “I could not secure a rank in the CPT and IPCC exam, so a rank in the CA
final was a pleasant surprise. It was unexpected though,” added Modi.

The first position was secured by two candidates from Delhi and Secunderabad with 75.75% each and the second rank was secured by a student from Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) conducts the CA final exam twice a year, in May and November. “Chartered accountancy profession is growing by leaps and bounds. We have high hopes from our students as we consider them highly committed, focused and hardworking,” said Manoj Fadnis, president, ICAI.
