A city student M. Kartik Reddy will represent the country at the first edition of World Junior Sudoku Championship (WJSC) to be held at Beijing in China on July 24 and 25.

A class eight student of The Global Edge School at Madhapur, Kartik along with his teammate Shambo Debnath of Kolkata, are set to participate in the under-15 category at the event. Children from around 40 countries are expected to participate in the competition organised by Beijing Media Network and a few other organisations.

Kartik was selected from 1,000 odd participants in the under-15 category. The preliminary rounds were held in November and the national selection in January across six cities. “In the past I participated in the general category and stood second in regional rounds. It is for the first time that a competition for junior level is going to held and I am confident of winning it,” Kartik says.

The competition is being held in three categories: under-15, under-18 and under-21 years. Six participants, two in each category, would be representing India. Before heading to Beijing, the group will attend a two-day training programme to be organised at Kolkata by Sudoku experts.
