India to demand extradition of NSCN-K chief, deputies

India is likely to demand extradition of NSCN (K) Leader S S Khaplang and his deputies during the annual Indo-Myanmar foreign minister level talks on Thursday. Khaplang is the mastermind of the attack on Dogra regiment in Chandel region in Manipur last month, which killed 20 jawans.

The last talks were held in October 2014 in Yangon. This time, it will be held in New Delhi. Born in April 1940, 75-year-old Khaplang is a Myanmar citizen. India is also preparing a dossier to be handed over to Myanmar government to formalise its demand. To support their claim for seeking his extradition, the MHA is also going to flag off the kidnapping of youths from Naga villages on June 12 from Phek District in south east Nagaland. The government is also going to put on table the intelligence report about location of insurgent camps on close to Arunachal border on Myanmar side.

Other than Khaplang, MHA will demand Myanmar to hand over his two deputies—general Niki Sumi, who has been key operational leader, and Brigdier Kurichu. Both are Indians.
