DMK is my party, says Alagiri

Former Union Minister scotches rumours that he plans to join BJP

July 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - MADURAI:

Scotching rumours that he would be joining the Bharatiya Janata Party, former Union Minister M.K. Alagiri clarified that he always belonged to the DMK, from which he was expelled in 2014.

Responding to the news report in a section of the media, Mr. Alagiri told The Hindu that it was all rumours. “I have already clarified in the past that my leader is Anna (DMK founder C.N. Anna Durai) and after him it is Kalaignar (M. Karunanidhi). And my party is only the DMK,” he said.

Earlier, when reporters tried to seek clarification from him on the issue when he came to attend a domestic function organised by his supporter at Villapuram, Mr. Alagiri gave a curt reply: “Go ask the newspaper.”

The rumours assumed significance in the backdrop of BJP president, Amit Shah, visiting Madurai on Wednesday in connection with former Chief Minister Kamaraj’s birth anniversary.
