COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - An AWOL Fort Carson soldier is facing a first-degree murder charge in the stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend in Colorado Springs.

The Gazette reports (https://goo.gl/iGCyMz ) 22-year-old Sgt. Joseph Kimsey was arrested Wednesday in the death of 27-year-old Ashley Melnyczok, whose body was found in an apartment last month.

He was initially arrested June 30 when he was found driving Melnyczok’s vehicle in Canon City. Kimsey was in jail when he was arrested Wednesday on the murder charge.



Police have not released details about his connection to the murder or a motive. His arrest affidavit is sealed.

On June 4, police arrested 27-year-old Jonathan Nelson on suspicion of second-degree murder after Melnyczok’s body was found.

Booking documents do not indicate if Kimsey or Nelson has hired an attorney.
