The annual ‘ratha yatra’ of 183-year-old Sri Jagannadha Swamy temple on the main road would be organised on Saturday evening.
The idols of Sri Jagannadha, Subhadra, and Balabhadra would be taken in the temple’s ‘ratham’ in a colourful procession to the Turner’s Choultry, where the main deity would be stationed for 10 days and give darshan in ‘dasavatharams’. The deities would be brought back to the temple in the return ‘ratha yatra’ on July 28. This would be the 153{+r}{+d}‘Ratha Yatra’ of the temple. A panchaloha idol of Sri Ranganadhaswamy was found when a noted business family of Garuda Jagannayakulu started digging for construction of a building.
A temporary temple was built and Chalamayya Deekshitulu was appointed priest. Later, the family started construction of a permanent temple for Sri Jagannadha Swamy, who is their family deity.
The temple was completed and idols of Sri Jagannadha, Subhadra, and Balabhadra, which were made in Puri, were installed in 1862.
Temple’s Executive Officer A. Jaganndha Rao, at a press conference he addressed along with festival officer D.V.V. Prasada Rao and priest Panangipali Jagannadhacharyulu, said all arrangements were in place for the festival.
