Leaders of the Congress and the CPI (M) paid tributes to the father of Irrigation and former Union Minister K.L. Rao on his 114{+t}{+h}birth anniversary under the auspices of the Krishna Delta Parirakshana Samithi here on Wednesday. PCC vice-president Devineni Rajasekhar, former MLA Malladi Vishnu, CPI(M) State leaders P. Madhu and Y. Venkateswara Rao and Parirakshana Samithi convenor K.Sivaji paid tributes to the doyen together.

Businessman and son of Dr K.L, Rao, K. Vijay Rao, paid floral tributes to the Samadhi of the Irrigation expert in the Model Guest House Compound in a separate function.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders said it was unfortunate that the government was not able to complete the Pulichinthala Project that was named after Dr K.L. Rao. While the previous government was able to complete 95 per cent of the project the current government was dragging its feet on its completion. As per the specifications the project had the capacity to store 45 tmc ft. The government was unable to provide water from the project even to the second kharif crop after being elected.

After spending Rs 1,700 crore on the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme, the state would be able to save just 26 tmc ft. But the completion of the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme would surely lead to the shelving of Polavaram project, they said.

Bharath Kisan Sangh State leader Kumara Swamy and Congress leaders Modugula Ganesh, T. Nageswara Rao participated in the programme.
