Along with imparting curriculum-based education to students, the educational institutions should strive to promote skills among students that would make them employable, said B.S. Yeddyurappa, Shivamogga MP and national vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Mr. Yeddyurappa was speaking after inaugurating a programme to mark World Youth Skills Day here on Wednesday.
It was essential to draw up proper policies to provide proper training to the huge pool of human resource in the nation to accelerate economic growth, he said and stressed the need to provide access to education and vocational training for youths from all strata of society.
It was heartening to note that Shivamogga was among the 100 districts selected for the Pradhan Mantri Koushal Vikas Yojana. The district that boasted of having two universities and many professional colleges had emerged as a hub of education in recent times. The educational institutions should assess the requirement of the industry and provide training for students accordingly, he said.
The Indian professionals, known for their honesty and ingenuity, were employed by reputed companies across the world. The nation could emerge as a human resource capital of the world, if proper education and training were provided to the youth, he said.
The programme had been organised by the district administration and the Nehru Yuva Kendra. Deputy Commissioner V.P. Ikkeri, president of the Shivamogga District Chamber of Commerce and Industry D.S. Arun and Chief Planning Officer of zilla panchayat Subba Rao were present.
