Cape Town - AmaZulu head coach, Steve Barker, has said that new recruit Mbongeni Gumede will fit in quickly at the club because he hails from Umlazi, Durban.
Gumede was signed from Orlando Pirates on a season-long loan as Usuthu looked to bolster their squad with younger players in order to comply with the under-23 rules of the NFD.
“Mbongeni Gumede, who has joined us, is a good quality player who fits the bill of us needing more Under 23 players as per NFD rules,” Barker said according to the AmaZulu website.
“He is a local born (player) and it’s nice to see that some of the players that are training here are locals due to the fact that most can adapt quickly (to the surroundings) and be of help to AmaZulu.”
Gumede got off to a bad start on his return to KZN after was involved in a car accident on Tuesday with teammate Tshepo Liphoko but thankfully both were okay.
“Earlier on today on our way to training me and Tshepo Liphoko had a terrible car accident but thank the almighty we are ohk just minor injuries nje — with Tshepo Liphoko at Netcare Umhlanga Hospital,” the defender wrote on his official Facebook page.
