Ed Robinson and Spencer Fearon look back on the career of Michael Spinks as the former boxer celebrates his 59th birthday.

Michael Spinks, the first reigning light-heavyweight world champion to win a heavyweight world title, turned 59 this week. Ringside caught up with a boxing legend...

The American - who won gold at middleweight at the 1976 Olympic Games - tore through the light-heavyweight division in the 1980s to snatch the WBC, WBA and IBF world titles and then graduated to the heavies to hand Larry Holmes his first professional defeats, winning and defending the IBF heavyweight crown in the process.

In June 1988, he challenged the all-conquering Mike Tyson for his WBC, WBA and IBF world titles but after suffering a first-round knockout, hung up his gloves having racked up a phenomenal record of 31-1-KO21.
