Son of retd ACP held for allegedly sodomising minor

The Samata Nagar police in Kandivali have arrested the 30-year-old son of a retired assistant commissioner of police, for allegedly sodomising a 15-year-old boy after befriending him on Facebook while pretending to be a woman. The accused coaxed the minor into sending him objectionable pictures, and later used the same to threaten him. The victim alleged that Milind Shette, an engineering graduate of Thakur Complex and son of retired ACP Vasant Shette, has been sodomising him for three months.

According to police sources, Shette and the boy live in the same area. Around three months ago, posing as a woman Shette created a fake profile on Facebook and befriended the boy.

Gradually, he lured the boy into sending him nude photographs, and then threaten him. “At this point Shette revealed his identity and asked the boy to accompany him to his building terrace, where he allegedly committed the unnatural offence. He also allegedly recorded the incident, and using the video and the photographs continued to sodomise the victim for three months,” said a police officer.

Last week, the boy finally narrated his ordeal to his family, who approached the police. Shette was arrested on Friday and a case of unnatural offences under Section 377 of the IPC and Section 4 (punishment for penetrative sexual assault), 5 (aggravate penetrative sexual assault) and 12 (sexual harassment) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered against him.

“Shette was produced in court and remanded in police custody for four days, after which he was sent to judicial custody on Tuesday. Further investigations are on,” said Senior Police Inspector Dilip Yadav. “The number of cases of Facebook being used to befriend victims is increasing. I appeal to people, especially minors, not to trust anyone they meet through social media. By befriending strangers, one reveals personal details which may be used for illegal activities,” he added.
