MSME ministry to bring Pollachi coir industry under 'Make in India'


(MENAFN- KNN India) Union Minister of state for MSME Giriraj Singh announced that efforts would be made to bring coir industry at Pollachi district of Tamil Nadu under 'Make in India' programme. He said the state is overtaking Kerala in coconut production and also coir products.

The minister was in Pollachi to attend Coir Board meeting on his way from Kerala.

Regarding the basic amenities required for the industry and workers, he said the ministry will discuss the issue with the Centre and implement them.

Singh visited various industrial sheds involved in making coir and related products at Pollachi and suggested to industrialists to concentrate more on value added products, which have vast export potential.

He said also that already announced two coir industry clusters will soon be commissioned in the region.

Tamil Nadu is the second largest producer of coir fibre in the country. Conveniently, the major developments that have taken place in the industry in Tamil Nadu can be classified in the form of developments in the fibre production, production of coir products, model coir village programme, integrated coir development project, entrepreneurial development and quality Improvement Programme and other developments.
