Jam on Golden Bridge again
Surat\Bharuch: Traffic on Golden Bridge and Sardar Bridge over Narmada River in Bharuch district was in the grip of a jam on Tuesday with queues building up to 5 km on national highway (NH) No. 8 in the afternoon.
It was a nightmarish experience for Ajit Padhya, who was on way to Vadodara from Surat. Padhya had come to Surat to visit an ailing relative on Monday night.
However, he got stuck in the traffic jam on old Narmada bridge.
"I thought things have smoothened after the earlier chaos. However, I was stuck ahead of Namada bridge. It look me over two hours to cross the bridge," Padhya said.
With jam on Narmada bridge on NH-8, vehicles coming from Surat were diverted towards Golden Bridge. This bridge too became victim of traffic jam.
"There were long queues from Ankleshwar to Golden Bridge. Daily travellers and other commuters got stuck for at least two hours in the traffic. It was a terrible experience waiting to cross Ankleshwar to Bharuch," Dinesh Solanki said.
"An urgent repair work on Sardar Bridge is required to be undertaken on Tuesday. Therefore only one bridge is available for to and fro traffic. Things will improve by late evening," Bharuch district collector Dr Vikrant Pandey said. There was some improvement on traffic management on Golden Bridge and Sardar Bridge after TOI launched a campaign in May and June. However, whenever any one bridge is closed for repairs, the traffic situation on NH-8 worsens.
