Harmeet downs Karia in men's final, Divya wins first major title after comeback

AHMEDABAD: Second seed Harmeet Desai of Surat and second seed Divya Gohil of Bhavnagar claimed the men's and women's titles respectively at the Elecon 3rd Open Gujarat Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament which concluded at the Vivekanand Sports Complex, Anand.
In the men's final it was a clash between Gujarat's two India internationals and the match failed to live up to its billing as Harmeet got the better of top seed Devesh Karia of Income Tax Bhavnagar 9-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-6, 11-5 to claim the third consecutive title of the season.
In the women's category, former Gujarat number one Divya, coming to competitive tennis after a sabbatical post marriage, prevailed over top seed Frenaz Chipia of Surat in a completely one-sided affair. Divya won 11-9, 11-9, 7-11, 11-7, 11-6.
In the youth boys final top seed Harsh Sachnandani of Surat defeated Ajoy Saha of Baroda 11-9, 11-3, 6-11, 11-5, 11-9 to claim the title. There was some consolation for Frenaz as she claimed the youth girl's title defeating 2nd seed Hely Shah of Ahmedabad 11-5, 8-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-8, 15-13.
