THE first City Road Lodge, on the corner of New England Road and Hesketh Drive in Hayfields, will open its doors in November in time for the festive season rush said City Lodge Hotel group spokesperson, Angus Macmillan.
The 90-room lodge will cater for travellers on a budget providing them with accommodation packages which is value for money.
“It’s a one-star hotel offering visitors cheap accommodation in a convenient area that’s well located in the city,” said MacMillan.
The target market for the lodge are business people travelling during the week, families visiting Pietermaritzburg for sports events and sales representatives who make their way around the province and country.
“There is a mix between business and leisure. The road lodge offers visitors WiFi, TV, free parking and access to continental breakfast facilities, providing them good value for money,” said MacMillan.
The group is currently undergoing a system change to its WiFi facilities. According to MacMillan, Pietermaritzburg was chosen as the next investment for the group because it is the capital of the province.
“We always look for areas that have potential for long-term investment and we are confident we will get good occupancies in Pietermaritzburg, which is in need of a good-value-for-money hotel with a lower star rating.”
The R45 million development will employ 15 staff.
The exact date of the opening cannot be given, but MacMillan said construction is on track
