Mayor, civic body staffers stage stir

NASHIK: City mayor and office bearers of the Nashik Municipal Corporation staged a protest after they were stopped from entering the flag hoisting programme venue on Tuesday morning.
Mayor Ashok Murtadak, deputy mayor Gurmeet Bagga and the standing committee chairman were initially stopped from going onstage for the function. Corporators Salim Shaikh, Yogita Aher, Tanaji Jaybhave, Vilas Shinde and others sat down in protest.
District guardian Girish Mahajan came down to meet them and apologized for the incident but the corporators refused to budge.
"This was a religious programme and not a political event. They gave it a political angle. The NMC has been planning the entire event for two years. We were invited for the programme but were not allowed to enter," said Shinde, adding "Later, Mahajan came and apologised. This is wrong."
