KOLKATA: Two alleged factions of Trinamool Congress fought with each other at Derozio College at Rajarhat on Tuesday over controlling the students’ union. They also vandalized the college’s properties.
Local Trinamool workers organized a meeting in front of the main gate of Derozio College on Tuesday morning to chalk out preparations for the party’s July 21 celebrations.
Some students alleged that the local leaders prevented them from entering the college.
“Those who stopped us from entering the college were not students of the college. They told us that we won’t be allowed to remain with TMCP if we did not follow local leader Tapas Chatterjee,” said Arindam Ghosh, general secretary of the TMCP-run students’ union at the college. Arindam also said that his friend and the TMCP unit president of the college Manoj Ghosh was also beaten up. The students have lodged a complaint at Airport police station. College principal Dibyendu Talapatra said that he had informed about the incident to education minister Partha Chatterjee. “There was an allegation that outsiders were also involved in creating the ruckus,” he said.
Local MLA Sabyasachi Dutta said that he had asked the college principal to seek education minister’s intervention to solve the issue.
