The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hopes that the nuclear deal signed by six leading world powers and Iran earlier Tuesday will put an end to the arms race in the region and help to eliminate weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons, in the Middle East.

In a short statement issued on its official Facebook page, the foreign ministry said it "hopes the deal would prevent an arms race in the Middle East, clear it from any weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons, and lead to peace and stability in the region."

The ministry also added that it is waiting to receive the full text of the deal and its terms in order to study it thoroughly.

Egypt has frequently called for nuclear disarmament and the elimination of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East.

According to the deal reached on Tuesday, Iran will cut the number of uranium centrifuges, which enrich uranium for nuclear fuel, but can also be used for nuclear weapons.
