Robbers’ gang busted, 5 held

The district police claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of robbers following arrest of five criminals near Gaughat locality on Monday. The arrested people were planning to target an ATM booth.

ALLAHABAD: The district police claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of robbers following arrest of five criminals near Gaughat locality on Monday. The arrested people were planning to target an ATM booth. Gas cutter, regulator and other equipments required to break the ATM were seized from them along with a huge cache of arms.
The gang used to target ATM booths and gun houses in Dehat and city outskirts, said the police.
A double barrel gun along with 31 cartridges, a factory-made gun, a pistol with magazine, a country-made pistol and 137 cartridges of revolver and pistol along with eight crude bombs, five mobiles and looted articles were also recovered from them.
The arrested persons were identified as Santosh Singh, Bhramdeo Dwivedi alias Sulli, Rahul Pandey, Saleem Shahjada and Rajkumar of Khiri.
Allahabad SSP KS Emmanuel said,“Three of them, including Santosh Singh, Bhramdeo Dwivedi alias Sulli and Rahul Pandey carried a cash reward of Rs 5,000 each.”
He said that last month Sulli had escaped from custody in Phaphamau while being taken to Pratapgarh court for a hearing.
He further said that the gang had stolen around a dozen licensed weapons and live cartridges from a gun house in Meja police circle on January 2, this year. On February 11, the gang lootedsilver ornaments from a temple and killed a woman in Shankargarh on March 24, he said and added on June 12, the gang looted cash, PAN card, passbook, tickets and other articles from a bus conductor near Shankargarh.
