After searching for his biological parents for over 25 years, Jahid Pasha is now looking forward to a happy family reunion. Born in Haryana’s Mewat district, Pasha was six-years-old and studying at a madrasa in Saharanpur when he landed in Karnataka, accompanying another student from the institution.

Talking to The Indian Express over the phone, Pasha who resides in Tumkur — around 60 km from Bengaluru — said that Javed, the student who brought him to Karnanataka, was then 13 or 14-year-old. “When we reached Karnataka, Javed left me at the station saying he was going to get food. He never returned. I stayed at a mosque for a few days till the maulvi noticed me and asked me why I was there. I then narrated my story. Though they offered to pay for my ticket and send me back, I did not know my address,” he said.

Pasha says he did odd jobs for some time and worked in a hotel as a helper. “As I grew up I wanted to search for my parents. I searched the Internet and found a list of numbers from Haryana. I called the sarpanch of Bibipur and asked him whether he could help in tracing my parents. He agreed,” said 32-year-old Pasha.

But Pasha remembered only few details about his village. Fortunately, he recalled his father’s name, Akbar.

Based on the information he provided, Sunil Jaglan, the sarpanch of Bibipur, zeroed in on Sunehra village in Mewat. The village head, when contacted, confirmed that there was indeed a family that lost a son many years ago.

Festive offer

Meanwhile, SP Mewat was also contacted by Jaglan. Police on Sunday sent a team to Pasha’s house and made him talk to the family in Mewat.

“My mother and I could not understand each other,” said Pasha, adding that his brothers then talked to him and asked him about specific instances before he went missing. “I recalled a few, the others I had forgotten. I sent my pictures to my family on Whatsapp. They also sent me their pictures. I would soon be visiting them. I will take my wife and my two children along,” he said.
