Chief Minister Jayalalithaa should oppose the provisions of the Land Acquisition Bill at the meeting of Chief Ministers called by the Centre, demanded Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Vaiko in Coimbatore on Monday.
Addressing reporters on his arrival here he said that if the State failed to do so it would construed as a betrayal of farmers.
The Centre had been trying to push hard the bill by re-promulgating land acquisition ordinance to overcome the delay in the passage of the bill. This was undemocratic as the government should not have shown such impatience but waited for the Joint Parliamentary Committee to consider the bill.
Liquor problem
Mr. Vaiko wanted the State government to realise that the future of the State was getting destroyed due to easy accessibility of liquor.
In response to a question on rumours on the Chief Minister’s health, he said that he did not want to politicise it by issuing statements. “If the rumours are true, I wish her good health.”
He said he was in Coimbatore to start the preparations for the party’s conference to commemorate the centenary of the Dravidian movement.
