MGNREGS workers stage sit-in

July 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - Tiruvannamalai:

Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) workers from Sothukanni village in Vilappakkam panchayat of Chetpet block staged a demonstration in the collectorate here on Monday demanding disbursement of wages.

The protesters said that they have not received their wages since April 15.

They suspect the role of bank business correspondent of the village since he happens to be the husband of panchayat president.

In the written memorandum submitted to the collector the protesters said that their enquiries with the bank authorities reveal that their accounts were credited with the wage.

Unfortunately they were denied money by the business correspondent.
