Youth dies in Civil, relatives allege medical negligence
AHMEDABAD: Relatives of a 21-year-old Manish Makwana, who died after a surgery in Asarwa Civil Hospital on July 11, have alleged medical negligence on the part of the hospital.
The Bapunagar resident had undergone a surgery after he suffered a knee fracture in a road accident 10 months ago. However, infection spread to the surrounding muscles and other soft tissues, causing pus.
Manish's father Dhanjibhai said: “We rushed him to the hospital after two months. The doctors removed the pus and sent him home. However, the pain didn't subside. We took Manish to a private hospital where doctors recommended a surgery.”
He said: “Since I'm a labourer and don't earn much, I again took him to the Civil Hospital on July 8. But Manish was operated upon only on July 10.”
Manish's brother in-law Babubhai Solanki said that even after undergoing another surgery, Manish had excruciating pain. “No senior doctor came to examine him. He finally died on July 11,” Solanki said.
Civil Hospital superintendent M M Prabhakar said: “We gave Manish the best possible treatment in ICU. The unit head told me the infection had spread to the patient's chest and brain and he died of a cardiac arrest.”
