Court allows Jagir Kaur to travel abroad
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court on Monday allowed former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Bibi Jagir Kaur to visit abroad. The SAD MLA had sought the high court's permission to visit US and Canada to attend an NRI conference.
A convict for abduction and causing forcible abortion of her daughter, Jagir had to seek permission from the high court to travel outside country.
On March 30, 2012, the special CBI court of Patiala had convicted Jagir and three others and sentenced them to five years' rigorous imprisonment for abduction and causing forcible abortion of her daughter Harpreet Kaur.
The court had, however, acquitted her of the murder charges. Jagir had moved the high court against the conviction, following which she was granted bail. Her appeal against conviction is pending before the HC.
