VADODARA: Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) on Saturday introduced three new employees to enhance performance of its existing team of cricketers. According to BCA, the new recruitments were made to provide professional assistance to budding cricketers from the city.
New recruits include coach Afzal Khan from Mumbai, city-based physiotherapist Jujara Usmangani and women's cricket team coach Rituparna Roy from Calcutta.
"The new recruitments have been made to upgrade the teams. We believe that professional staff can enhance quality of players and matches. Our young
cricketers can learn and imbibe qualities that are required in both national and international matches," said former cricketer and joint secretary of BCA Snehal Parikh.
Khan has been coaching Mumbai Indians team in the IPL franchisee for last four years and Usmangani, who worked with BCA for eight years, has been a practising physiotherapist in cricket for last 13 years. Roy has been recruited to build up women's cricket team of Baroda.
"We have immense talent in Vadodara and all they need is expert guidance to help them carve a niche for themselves in cricket. I am very optimistic that the teams will achieve the desired results in the upcoming tournaments," said Roy, who captained Bengal women's cricket team in 2006-08.
"Training and fitness are very important for budding cricketers. The younger lot of players from the city is much more self-aware and open to change. They are driven and goal-oriented," said Khan, who has been coaching for last 10 years.
