In a unique way to force rain god — Indra, tribals in Asadi village of Betul district have covered the idol of Indra Dev with mud so that when the deity feels uncomfortable, causes rains and mud is washed away.

BHOPAL: In a unique way to force rain god — Indra, tribals in Asadi village of Betul district have covered the idol of Indra Dev with mud so that when the deity feels uncomfortable, causes rains and mud is washed away.
Age-old belief among tribals is if it doesn't rain, unmarried boys of village should cover the rain god with mud, sources said. When the deity feels choked, he causes rain and mud is washed away, sources said.
The temple of Indra at Asadi village under Chicholi tehsil is known as Baddev temple and it is popular among tribals of Betul and other nearby areas. The tribals come here to pray for rains. Locals say though it may seem odd, tribals have firm belief it ensures rains a couple of days.
