Orientation for freshers

A four-day orientation for freshers was held at Nanjil Catholic College of Arts and Science at Kaliyakkavilai in Kanyakumari district recently.

A release from the college said that students were taught improvement of communication skills and time management. Professor M. Sebastin was the resource person for the programmes. A. Sujatha Joice welcomed the gathering. E. John Jothi Prakash, Principal, G. Ayisha Bibin Rani, Secretary, and Rev. Fr. S. Maria Rajendran offered felicitation address.

Meet on gender sensitisation

The women empowerment cell of Saraswathi Narayanan College, Madurai, organised a one-day seminar on gender sensitisation for first-year undergraduate girl students recently in which A.R. Uma, Assistant Professor of English, explained the uniqueness of being women as well as challenges faced by them in contemporary society. She also outlined strategies to counter these challenges.

P. Veerammal, coordinator of the cell, welcomed the participants. M. Kannan, Principal, presided over the seminar. K. Krishnan, Vice-Principal, K. Muthukumaran, Controller of Examinations, and K. Jeyakodi, Dean, offered felicitations. Sivasankari proposed a vote of thanks.

Students’ union inaugurated

Students’ union of N. M. S. Sermathai Vasan College for Women, Madurai, was inaugurated by P. T. Manoharan, Additional Controller of Examinations, Madurai Kamaraj University, on July 1. In his inaugural address, Dr. Manoharan stressed the importance of women’s education. Vice-Principal D. Karthiga Rani welcomed the gathering. College president G. Mariskumar delivered the presidential address. Chairman of students’ union A. Swathy proposed a vote of thanks.

Climate change and human health

A dialogue on ‘Climate change and human health’ was organised by Annai Fathima College of Arts and Science, Tirumangalam, recently in which P. S. Navaraj, Principal, explained how human health was at peril owing to the impact of climate change. He referred to a recent report that highlighted how climate change could spoil gains in development and global health.

“By reducing air pollution and improving diet, we can balance the impact of climate change. The global political trend is not favourable to curtail climate change, according to the report,” he said.

Association inaugurated

Mechanical Engineering Association of P.S.R. Engineering College, Sivakasi, was inaugurated by T. Ramprabhu, Assistant Director, DRDO, Bengaluru, recently.

Correspondent R. Solaisamy presided over the function. S. Alagappan welcomed the gathering. K. R. Viswanthan, Director, addressed the students.

Principal B.G. Vishnuram delivered the presidential address. Dr. Ramprabhu listed various opportunities available for mechanical engineering students in aerospace industries and explained the importance of four skills — design, simulation, production and testing of components — required to get employed in the industry. K. Ganesan, coordinator of the association, introduced the office-bearers. M. Harish Mohammed proposed a vote of thanks.

Training for placement

A six-day placement training programme was conducted for third and fourth year students of Renganayaki Varatharaj College of Engineering, Salvarpatti, near Sivakasi recently. About 200 students from Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science Engineering streams were trained by trainers from seven companies.

Yoga Day fete

International Yoga Day celebration at Sivakasi Nadars Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Madurai, featured a yoga demonstration by students and a talk on the importance of yoga by K. Renganayaki, yoga teacher. Akshintha Sundaresh, a Plus One student, welcomed the gathering.

Raju correlated the relationship among mind, body and soul and advised the students to perform yoga daily.

P. Rengan, Principal, pointed out how saints overcame all their difficulties by doing yoga regularly.

Correspondent V. Rama Sundarasekaran presided over the function. E. Manopriya of Plus One proposed a vote of thanks.
