With the monsoon playing the truant the water level in several projects in the State is decreasing alarmingly. As a result the tanks are not receiving sufficient water. This has affected the Harita Haram programme as watering the plants has become difficult. According to sources Singur project is also facing similar situation. As a result the water flow to Maneera reservoir was also hit. Despite of the shortage, it is learnt that the authorities released water.

The water levels in Singur project fell down drastically and the situation is alarming if what officials said was to be believed.

The district headquarters had no water supply on Thursday and Friday. However it was restored later as the municipal authorities had requested Singur project officials to release water. Water was released late on Thursday.

As on Thursday evening, the water at Singur project was only 3.67 tmcft. “The water level at this project was not so low in the last few years. Water available may meet the drinking water need for the next one and half month or so. Situation may get serious if there are no rains in the catchment area, said an irrigation engineer.
