Day-time train sought

July 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - SALEM:

The Salem – Attur – Vridhachalam is yet another section in Salem Railway Division suffering from inadequate trains.

The Salem – Chennai Egmore overnight service is the only express train being operated in this section for the whole day, ever since the newly-converted broad gauge track was commissioned in this section eight years ago.

Puducherry – Mangalore and Puducherry – Yesvantpur, both weekly trains, are the other express trains plying on this route.

All the three trains arrive at Attur in the night hours.

Only three pairs of passenger trains are operated in this section, all in the day time.

The long-pending demand of the people of Attur and surrounding areas is the operation of day-time train from Salem to Chennai Egmore, says A. Vadivel, lawyer and president, Train Passengers Welfare Association, Attur.

According to Salem Division sources, this proposal has already been forwarded to the Railway Headquarters for its favourable consideration. The commuters of Attur have also demanded operation of passenger train service in the Salem – Chinna Salem section.

Only three pairs of passenger trains are operated in this section, all in the day time.
