: Unity of the Left parties with the Congress was a must for countering communalism, the Revolutionary Socialist Party national general secretary, T.J. Chandrachoodan, has said.

Mr. Chandrachoodan was inaugurating the RSP district meet at Aban Arcade here on Sunday. The RSP leader accused the Communist Parties of joining hands with certain regional parties having a bigger corruption background than the Congress. Mr. Chandrachoodan stressed the need for unity of Left parties with other secular forces to counter the majority communalism. He said Congress and the Left parties should jointly open an agitation front to fight the Bharatiya Janata Party communal politics which was highly disastrous to the country.

Mr. Chandrachoodan alleged that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was not working towards formation of a broader political forum of Left parties to fight communal forces.

Instead of initiating steps to float a secular socialist alliance at national level, the CPI(M) has aligned with certain regional parties rooted in corruption, he alleged.

The RSP leader said that the functioning of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of a secular democratic republic like India was not all satisfactory. The Prime Minister’s absence in the Parliament at a time when both the Houses were holding discussions on several key issues was not a responsible act, he said.
