PMANE to continue fight against n-plants

July 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - THANJAVUR:

“We will continue out struggle against establishment and operation of nuclear power plants in the country,” People's Movement Against Nuclear Energy Chief Coordinator SP Udhayakumar told reporters here on Sunday.

Arriving by train from Karaikal as part of PMANE's propagation of aims on rails, Mr. Udhayakumar alleged that in the garb of scientific development, the Centre was imposing dangerous nuclear plants, neutrino observatory in Theni district, Nuclear waste research centre at Vadapazhavanchi in Madurai district and coal bed methane extraction project in Cauvery delta districts.

Lambasts State govt.

Unfortunately the State government was acting hand in glove with the Centre in furthering the projects that had the scope to snuff out the livelihood of the locals.

He claimed that the Centre was planning to dump nuclear waste in the caverns that would be left behind when the neutrino laboratory wound up after an initial probe and that would devastate the natural resources in the Western Ghats and hence the project must be stalled forthwith. Despite odds, the PMANE would strive peacefully to end nuclear power reliance to preserve and protect Tamil race and its livelihood resources from danger, Mr. Udhayakumar emphasised.

Critics silent

Conceding that the PMANE did not have the wherewithal to successfully fight the governments, he pointed out that those who had complained of foreign funding for his agitations had now gone silent.
