Yanam is gearing up for the ‘Godavari Maha Pushkarams’ by constructing bathing ghats on the banks of ‘Vruddha Gouthami’, one of the seven distributory branches of the Godavari. The town is decked up with welcome arches and makeshift temples and a statue of ‘Godavari Matha’ was installed.

Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy will launch the mega event at 6.26 a.m. on Tuesday by taking a holy dip at Shivam bathing ghat. A group of Ministers and senior officials from Puducherry are expected to join the Chief Minister for the event.

Works for the ‘Godavari Pushkaralu’ are nearing completion under the supervision of Regional Administrative Officer G. Balaram.

In addition to the three bathing ghats at Shivam, one ghat each was constructed at Kanakalapeta, Ayyanna Nagar, Seetaram Nagar and Dhariyala Tippa for the event. Makeshift temples of Lord Venkateswara, Vinayaka and Shiva were built on the banks of the Vruddha Gouthami.

The officials are especially keen on maintaining sanitation and have launched mobile green toilets for the convenience of the visiting pilgrims.

“Close to 99 per cent works are already completed and the balance works will be finished in a day or two. We are expecting floating population rather than those who prefer to stay here and making arrangements accordingly,” says Mr. Balaram.

Mr. Rangasamy will be in the town on Monday. He will inaugurate the Rs. 50 crore Godavari drinking water pipeline project from Dowleswaram to Yanam.
