From etymology of words and technology-related riddles to names of children in Harry Potter series, children from various schools across the city effortlessly cracked questions at the Shastra Junior Quiz held at IIT Madras here on Sunday.
Shubhankar Agarwal, a Class XII student of A.M.M. School, who, along with his friend Tejas Sivan, won the first place said, “We had a whale of time answering the questions; some were tough and challenging. But in quizzes like these, it is not winning that matters, participation does.”
Of nearly 100 teams that participated in the preliminary round, 18 were chosen to compete in the regional finals. Two teams — Shubhankar Agarwal and Tejas Sivan from A.M.M. School and Hariharan and Siddharth from Chettinad Vidyashram — will be participating in the national finals that will be held in January next year at Shastra 2016.
Nithin Ramesan, a student of electrical engineering at IIT Madras who conducted the quiz said, “We wanted a flavour of science and technology in the questions keeping in line with Shastra 2016. I should say that the students were pretty enthusiastic.”
