The English Bulldog puppy born with multiple genetic deformities has gained the attention and love of thousands of dog lovers from all around the world. Bonsai was born to a breeder in Arkansas in April 2015.

Bonsai was born with multiple bodily deformities, including contracted hind legs, half spine and no pelvis. Upon birth, he became the first canine to be officially diagnosed with a human condition called Caudal Regression and Sacrocaudal Dysgenesis. In addition, he was also diagnosed of the Swimmer's syndrome, in which the chest of the animal is flattened and the front legs diverge toward the outside.

The diagnosis of the dog's condition was made after Friends of Emma, a rescue home in Texas, rescued the puppy from the owner and showed took him for a medical consultation. A medical practitioner informed Friends of Emma that due to his condition, the hind legs of the puppy will continue to contract and twist as he grows up. Therefore, the group decided to get the puppy's hind legs amputated.

Now 11-weeks old, Bonsai has turned out to be a happy and vibrant puppy. Elizabeth Hart, one of the rescuers, has started a crowdfunded campaign to collect donations for the treatment and therapy of the small puppy.

Medical professionals have advised a regular MRI screening to check the functioning of Bonsai's internal organs. Currently, Bonsai has no control over his bowel movement and needs to wear a diaper all the time. The crowdfunded campaign page states that it is not possible to supply Bonsai with prosthetic limbs as there is no nerve function left for limb functioning.
