SRINAGAR, July 11: National Conference  observed the 15th death anniversary of Madar-e-Meharban, Begum Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah by organizing a commemorative function and congregational  `Fateha Khwaani’ at Quaid Mazaar, Naseem Bagh here today.
NC working president  Omar Abdullah, NC general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, NC additional general secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal, party chief spokesperson Aga Syed Ruhullah, Provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani, senior Party leaders, former ministers, Legislators and Party functionaries  paid floral tributes to Madr-e-Meharban and offered Fateha at Quaid Mazaar on this occasion. Hundreds of prominent citizens and social activists also visited Quaid Mazaar to pay tributes to Madr-e-Meharbaan.
In a message on this occasion, National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah recollected the spirit of social service and social justice that was upheld by Madr-e-Meharban and described her as an epitome of selfless social service, conviction, piety and courage.
“Madr-e-Meharban was not only a pillar of moral support to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah but also a compassionate mother of the people who always demonstrated a commitment to lead them in his absence against all odds. She worked tirelessly for the amelioration of the poor and weaker sections of society and took upon herself the role to be the voice of the downtrodden”, Dr Abdullah said.
“We have suffered with the people rather than making them suffer. We have sacrificed power for decades rather than selling the interests of our State for power. We will continue to be the flag-bearers of Kashmiriyat, Internal Autonomy and Article 370 despite all odds”, Dr Abdullah maintained.
National Conference Working President  Omar Abdullah visited Quaid Mazaar on the occasion paid flower tributes and offered Fateha.
Speaking on the occasion,  Omar Abdullah highlighted the tremendous work done by Madr-e-Meharbaan  for the cause of women empowerment and said she was a staunch advocate of educating women and providing them with equal rights of dignity, empowerment and honor. “Madr-e-Meharban is a timeless icon that will continue to be a beacon of inspiration for those who are tirelessly working for the cause of women empowerment and the rights of the voiceless sections of society. Madr-e-Meharban’s contribution in established Development Boards and Hostels for tribal and economically backward sections of the society is historic and continues to bear fruit to this day. National Conference will continue to treasure the legacy of Madr-e-Meharbaan and work with honesty and sincerity to uphold our values and ideals”, NC working president  said.
Senior party leaders  Dr Mustafa Kamal, Ch Mohd Ramzan and Mohammad Sayeed Akhoon also addressed the gathering. NC leaders including Abdul Rahim Rather, Mohammad Akbar Lone,  Mubarak Gul, Syed Aga Ruhullah,  Nasir Aslam Wani,  Junaid  Mattu, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi, Peer Mohammad Afaq, Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, Ali Mohammad Dar, Shameema Firdous, Gulam Qadir Pardesi,  B A Veeri and others also attended.
