Karunanidhi questions validity of panel report on Moulivakkam

July 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - CHENNAI:

DMK leader M. Karunanidhi on Saturday questioned the validity of the report of the Justice Ragupathi Commission that probed the collapse of the multi-storeyed building in Moulivakkam, pointing out that more than six months had lapsed since the report was submitted to the government.

In a statement here, he said as per 3 (4) of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, a report of a commission should be tabled in the Assembly within six months of its submission to the government.

“Though Justice Ragupathy submitted his report on October 28, 2014, the government had not tabled it in the Assembly. As the time stipulated for its presentation in the Assembly is over, there is a question over the validity of the report. The government should explain the status of the report,” Mr Karunanidhi said.

He also alleged that a lot of files were waiting for clearance from Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and the government, instead of obtaining her signature in every file, was using a single signature for clearance of all files.

“Since the government is maintaining silence on the issue, such allegations are levelled. A lot of works in the Public Works Department could not be implemented because of vacancies. The government’s failure to fill vacancy also prevented routine promotions,” he said.
