Maniyeri Madhavan awards presented

Activist D. Surendranath and anchor of visual travelogue Santhosh George Kulangara were bestowed the Maniyeri Madhavan memorial award instituted in memory of the founder of Sudinam daily here.

Dr. Surendranath and Mr. Kulangara received the awards from Mathrubhumi chairman and managing director M.P. Veerendrakumar here on Saturday. Award committee chairman K.M. Ibrahim presided.

In his address, Mr. Veerendrakumar said the print media was facing crisis as newspaper reading is on the decline the world over. He said the popularity of visual media had adversely affected the newspaper reading.

P.K. Sreemathy, MP, K.M. Shaji, MLA and district panchayat president K.A. Sarala were among those who spoke at the award presentation function. Sudinam editor Madhu Menon was also present.

Former MP Sebastian Paul and Reporter TV managing director M.V. Nikesh Kumar spoke on ‘Media trial and future of public service’.
